I always think it’s so creepy when parents go live while getting their kids ready for school. Immediate scroll.

Parents exploit their children all the time, People are not good.

They’re no different from your glorified “influencers.” If sending a virtual gift to a millionaire counts as interaction, why not help those in need online?

Lately, I’ve been seeing a disturbing trend on TikTok Live across Latin America: parents using their children to attract views, gifts, and money. Some of these lives go on for hours, with the child sitting next to the parent, clearly being used as a way to boost engagement. The more people see a kid on screen, the more they interact, send virtual gifts, and ultimately help the parent monetize.

Isn’t this a form of exploitation? If a child is continuously exposed on live streams, generating revenue for their parents, how is this different from child labor? Shouldn’t there be stricter rules on TikTok regarding minors appearing in live content?

It’s shocking that TikTok allows this to happen, despite the platform supposedly having policies against child exploitation. Yet, as long as the parent is present, it seems to be completely fine. But is it really?

What do you think? Should platforms like TikTok be doing more to prevent this? Or do you think parents have the right to involve their children in their content as long as they’re present? Where do we draw the line between family content and child exploitation?

Let’s discuss.

Didn’t you just “exploit” that child in the image you posted in efforts to promote/enhance your opinion in this post?

How easy was it for you to use that image? Why did you feel obligated to post the image of the child if your stance is “anti-exploitation”?

Overall you made a very valid argument but I think you undercut your position by posting the picture of the minor. Did she consent to the use of her image in this conversation/argument? I doubt it.

My point, I find it problematic that a parent can justify their child exploitation on TikTok and that some rando on Reddit would continue the same behavior by using her image to try to prove a point.
