Anyone experience this “scam” before?

Basically, people come in your DM and ask you to be their friend, or just say Hi or something like that. Then, after a bit of talking, they ask for your iMessage number. When you text them on iMessage, they try to make conversation and then after a few minutes they say they are “freaky” or something of that sort, and try to get you to exchange “pictures” of yourself with them. I’m guessing this is a blackmail scam? Maybe they try to get your pictures and then try to get you to pay them or they’ll leak it? I have had atleast 4 people text me and do this exact same routine. Its just weird that multiple people are doing the exact same thing, makes me thing its some kind of group operation or something that they planned. Let me know if anyone else has had this experience before
