Is it illegal to record someone else’s TikTok live to use in a harassment case?

If someone is slandering/harassing me while on TikTok live is it legal to record the live to use as evidence of the harassment?

I think it would be? I’m not sure. But if they’re willingly showing the public through something as large as a stream I don’t believe it would be unfair

I mean, is it harassment if you went into their live? You were free to leave at any time, yeah?

There is no expectation of privacy in a legal setting in/on public spaces, which very much includes social media. If you are USA based, that should be fine. However, you need to consult with your lawyer on this and not on reddit as they'd be the best person to direct you in this as that is their whole purpose as a lawyer.

If you do a live and everyone can see it, it cannot be illegal.

Probably fair to use.

I’d ask /r/legal to be sure.

no, because its public, posted on a public forum, and anyone can view it. anyone can repost it or snap it. its why we sign waivers before logging into a new TikTok account.

You can record anything that is done in public, as someone don't have any right to expect privacy in public.
