What’s with the found animal trend?

Maybe it’s just me and it’s not the weirdest thing happening on tiktok, but I don’t get it. My feed is littered with fake animal rescue videos. While the creators are many, the script is the exact same in each case: an apprently abandoned wild baby animal (mostly fox, raccoon, deer, otter) approaches a hand, they take it home, give it a scrub, dry it with hair dryer, bottle feed it, and then pet it. Next shot, the animal is grown, quite obviously a different animal, living with new people previously not seen in the video, different location etc. The whole editing totally lacks consistency and screams fake. I started to watch some genuine animal rescue channels and a few months later the algo gives me nothing but this crap. Like every second video in my feed. Why do so many people bother to create this kind of BS? You can’t even make a buck off of it.

Makes me extremely upset that it promotes home rehabilitations, unless absolutely necessary DO NOT do anything to an abandoned baby without calling a rescue for advice. Offering water or food when dehydrated can kill them almost immediately, warming or cooling too quickly can kill them, certain injuries need to be attended to very specifically and picking them up can make it much worse, ect ect.

Hello, I am a generative AI developer working on a project to detect animal exploitation videos on social media. Everything from fake animal rescue videos, animal shelter scams, app based animal feeding exploitation, and whatever other evil nonsense I don't even know exists yet.

Currently, I am working on a system that scrapes thousands of animal related videos and analyzes them with a multimodal LLM for signs of abuse and exploitation. When signs are found, the entire account is scraped of all content to determine if there is a pattern. I haven't actually gotten to the next step after this, possibly something "outside the system" depending on how the platforms in question respond to the overwhelming evidence. I'm at 200/1000 videos processed for the first batch at the moment.

If you're unfamiliar with this type of content, here is an AI write up of the situation.
