Why are they asking for verification?

I just realized my TikTok shop completely disappeared and it’s asking for me to verify my age with my license? Is this so I can access it? They didn’t do this before so why now? Something seems fishy, and I don’t want to verify my identity. It just seems weird?

The US government has it now. It's no longer a safe app. Not that it was in the first place but better than what's about to happen with it.
