How-to SSF (or how to make multi divine gear on shoestring budget)

Background

Just hit Lv100 on Stormweaver (Rank #2) in HCSSF. Learned a lot of new crafting tech along the way and thought I should share it.

Obtaining Bases

Breakpoints

  • INT armour: item level 79 for T1 Defence
    • Example ES bases: Vile Robe (i79+), Ancestral Tiara (i80+), Sirenscale Gloves (i80+)
  • DEX and STR armour: item level 81 (for Deflection and Armour to Elemental)
  • Boots: item level 82 for 35% Movement Speed
    • Example ES base: Sekhema Sandals
    • Do not try to Desecrate the 35% MS mod later; it is extremely rare.

Gambling (Ange and Rog)

Ange and Rog can sell up to item level 80 bases (at Character Level 90). You generally prefer magic items on a good base, but will also take rares if Rog offers them with a T1 defense prefix and the correct ilvl. This is a surprisingly fast way to get bases for 3xT1 prefix crafting.

In order of precedence, stash bases with:

  1. Magics with T1 prefix
    • Example T1% or flat defense prefix (not hybrid) regex:
      "(9[1-9].*m|1(0[1-9]|[1-9]\\d).*d) ene"
  2. Magics with no prefix
    • Example ES no‑prefix regex:
      "^(Ances|Siren|Vile).*of"
  3. Other magics
  4. Rares with T1 prefix
  5. Other rares

Recommended stash setup:

  • Sort stash tabs into these categories.
  • If you can use premium tabs, set the tab to public and put the regex in a note on an item inside of it.
  • Copy/paste the regex into the vendor window search.

Vendor tips:

  • Ange: spam buy and spam sell items, then check the Buyback window for hits with regex.
  • Rog: you can use his prefix crafts/rerolls, but you’ll likely fill all affixes, which reduces later recombination chances (still often worth it for strong T1s).

Farming

For bases you cannot get via gambling:

  • Irradiated / Overseer T15 maps will suffice for most bases.
  • For higher ilvl (up to 83), run Atziri’s Temple.

Pick up:

  • All Normal/Magic/Rare items of the desired base, regardless of unidentified tier or mods.

Preparing Bases

Normal Items

  • Use Perfect Transmutation.
  • If you did not get a T1 prefix, use Perfect Augmentation.

Magics with T1 Prefix

  • Hold these for recombination.

Magics with No Prefix

  • Use Perfect Augmentation and hope for a T1 prefix.

Other Magics

  • Use the Reforging Bench.
  • If it has no prefix, use Perfect Augmentation and hope for a T1 prefix.
  • Otherwise, treat the item based on the result (e.g., if it now has a T1 prefix, move it to the “Magics with T1 Prefix” bucket).

Rares with T1 Prefix

  • Hold these for recombination.

Other Rares

  • If the item has 1 prefix + 3 suffixes, double Exalt slam.
  • Otherwise, use the Reforging Bench.

Crafting

Fracturing (Important Note)

You mainly fracture when:

  • You want 35% Movement Speed.
  • Or you want T1 Deflection / Armour to Elemental locked in.

Process:

  • Slam (or Annul) until the item has exactly 3 total mods.
  • Then Desecrate → Fracture:
    • Desecrated mods cannot be fractured, so your fracture odds effectively improve (from 1/4 to 1/3 on an otherwise 3‑mod item).

Recombination

Goal: get 2x T1 prefixes on one rare.

Best case:

  • Recombine magic items where each has a single T1 prefix (one mod each).
    • These have the highest chance of combining into a rare with both T1s.

If that’s not possible:

  • Combine items with T1s of the same rarity (magic+magic, rare+rare) and aim to merge the prefixes.

Desecration

Once you have a rare with 2x T1 prefixes and a free prefix:

  • Use Desecrate with Omen of Abyssal Echoes.
  • Use Perfect Exalt slams on the remaining suffixes to fill them.

Body Armour Specific Note

  • Perfect Slam the remaining suffixes.
  • Use Perfect Essence of Seeking (Crit Damage Reduction).
    • This will only remove suffixes (since they’re full), preserving your prefixes.

Final Item

At this point you should have:

  • At least a 2x T1 prefix rare (with the option of using Omen of Light to fix the Desecration).
  • Hopefully some decent suffixes.

If you dislike the suffixes, you can:

  • Spam Omen of Whittling.
  • Use Dextral Chaos / Annul.
  • Abandon the craft and recombinate with another item that has your desired third prefix (this can reopen Desecrate/Fracture suffix plays if the result hits).
  • (Double) corrupt with Omen of Corruption.
  • Sell the item if you’re in Trade.

For me the highest priority for fracturing are +skills amulets. That's such a pain to find.

SSF broken build? Oil granade incenirate combo. For current patch.

Technically #1 one now? Chutesandladders bit the dirt didn't they?

Amazing guide. I wouldn’t dare to try SSF right now but this will definitely help down the road

Ahh thank you, a lot of crafting is still confusing but I think I’m slowly beginning to understand

Use Perfect Exalt slams on the remaining suffixes to fill them.

Spam Omen of Whittling. Use Dextral Chaos / Annul.

You had me up to this point. Those materials are hard to come by in SSF so if you're dropping enough to routinely craft with you probably don't need a guide lol. Edit: I don't have a max-build temple so I can't just drop high-tier currency. Building a crazy temple is probably my next step if I want to keep improving my build

I'm lvl 96 in softcore SSF and I haven't dropped a single perfect exalt, whittling, or dextral erasure yet. I've probably dropped like 15 annuls total and maybe ~150 chaos total so chaos spamming crafts can't really be done. I've been upping my rarity and it's now at 103% so it's not like I'm not trying to find these things

So far my crafting method has been as follows

Grab any ilvl 78+ A-tier bases for my build

If they have tier 1 mod I want, I store in recombination tab

If not, perfect aug/transmute. If T1 mod I want, store. If not, recombine them and see if t1 mod I want.

Note: If you have a lower ilvl item with T1 mod make sure you recombine with ilvl 82+ T1 mod that can only drop on ilvl82 so your output is ilvl 82

Repeat that process until I've dropped or recombined into a magic item with 2 T1 mods I want.

Note: I'm mainly looking for +5 chaos skill wands, +3 spell skills amulets, and +2 spell skill focuses. So far I've desecrated into 1 +5 wand, dropped 1 +3 amulet and 1 +2 focus... All 3 of which I currently use because they're good enough and +skills is huge for damage. Getting the + skill mod you want is by far the hardest part as I've only ever seen those 3 items with the T1 +skill mods

From there I essence it into a rare with something I want. Usually %ES or a res essence but can also do rarity if res's are good

Then desecrate & abyssal echo to target either suffix or prefix I want most depending what's already on the item. If you have omen of light this becomes easier but I've only dropped like 3 of those so save for the really good stuff

Then depending on desecration you're left with 4 good mods on an item. 3 T1's and 1 T3. Now it's just slam greater exalt with the omen to do 2 mods and pray.

Getting to 4 good mod items is relatively easy once you understand the steps. I probably brick anywhere from 2 to 5 4-mod items trying to get a great 5-mod item, and then 6-mods are lottery wins or you have the crafting currency to do your method. I'm lvl 96 and have nowhere near the amount of currency needed to craft even 1 item with the better method

The level of detail in this guide makes it really great. A lot of guides handwave over stuff that the writer knows but readers don't

Not sure why you'd say desecrating 35% MS is extremely rare when the odds of hitting T1 MS out of already having flat/% is higher than hitting T1 either % or flat when having the other 2.

Alternatively it's also the only prefix that has a safe ilvl when whittling, not that it matters much for ES since hybrid stun threshold will ruin your day regardless.
