How do I know if drops are any good?

I am fairly new to the PoE franchise, 105 hours in the game, mainly on my Detonate Dead Blood Mage before patch 0.2. I played 25-30 hours in 0.3, when Hollow Palm monk became available. Thanks to the builds, I do understand a bit what items are valuable for me, but how do I know that my drops are good enough to be sold?

Thanks.

Play a lot of different builds and you’ll eventually recognize things that would be nice for the builds you aren’t currently playing.

Or as a shortcut, go to poe ninja and look at the most played skills, then look up guides for those builds and see what the guides recommend.

Also make sure you have a price checker extension like awakened trade or sidekick.

Takes some time to learn, but some basics I've caught onto are;

Amulets with +3 skill may be good.
Weapons with +5 / +7 (and usually +crit % chance, ideally close to 5%)
exceptional white items with extra socket

Rings with multiple T1 (hold alt to see) rolls, multiple damage especially (+2-70 lightning damage for example)

Boots must have +35% move speed, after that lots of resist / lots of energy shield is desirable

When in doubt, there's a few price checking tools. Keep price checking things, and try to understand what makes it valuable, usually its just one or two rolls that really up the price.

There are a few programs you can use to look up items on the fly. I use Exile Exchange 2 and it's ok but getting better every league.

I use Poe overlay 2, which used to require overwolf (deal breaker for most), but they have a standalone version too.

I love it and much prefer the interface to exiled exchange. It does quite a bit more than price items, but their price check tool is really good as well (In my opinion).
