I've ran around 400 of ritual maps this league. Here are my results.

For a few leagues I've been running rituals. This league I decided to keep statistics to determine my profit. I wrote in notepad every top tier (whittling, sinistral \ dextral annuls, sinistral \ dextral erasure) omen, that I've received in rituals.

My atlas setup:

Additional reroll.

Cheaper reroll.

4 altars.

Increased chance for omens.

My tablet setup.

1 x legendary ritual tablet (x 2 rerolls)

1 x "ritual altars allow rerolling 3 additional times"

1 x cheaper reroll, more tribute \ cheaper deffer.

With this setup, I had ~12.6 average rolls per map

(No remnants of power proc = 10 rerolls per map + 1 initial,
Remnants of power proc = 18 rerolls per map + 1 initial. (0.8 * 11) + (0.2 * 19) = 12.6 average rolls)

Total recorded maps: 397 (95% of them were lvl 80, 5% were used to to travel between nodes)

Total whittling received : 39

Other top omens received : 39

Whittling per map : ~1 per 10 maps

Other high tier omens per map : ~1 per 10 maps

If you decide to forgo 3 x additional reroll tablet due to its price, especially during league start, you will need to multiply those numbers by 2.6, since in that case, you will have 5 average rerolls per map, instead of 12.6, meaning, that you will get 1 whittling \ high tier omen per 26 maps.

Keep in mind, that I've encountered kinda dry streak during the end of the run. I'd say whittlings are more common, than that (around 1 in every 9 maps, or so).

Conclusions:

  • It's essential to run 80+ lvl maps. More than half of your profit comes from top tier omens, and they are dropping from lvl 80+ maps only.

  • Omen droprate sucks. I'd say, that I spent around 70-80% of my league running rituals, and I havent got enough whittlings to complete single high end craft. This is laughable, imo.

  • It is not economically feasible to buy "3 x reroll tablets" during league start. I remember seeing those tablets for 10+ divines, while whittling costed 2d, and other top omens costed 3-4. You wont be able to break even.

  • Odds of crafting such tablet yourself are low due to low suffix weight. I'd say you need around ~150-200 chaos orb on average to get it. I craft those tablets myself, and once spent around 900 orbs to get single tablet.

  • Most of maps are bad for rituals. Monster spawns are tied to ritual area. Narrow area = less spawns, less tribute. I missed 2 high tier omens, due to not being able to deffer it.

  • King of the mists (ritual pinnacle boss) - sucks too. After developers massacred ingenuity (legendary belt), there is simple too little incentive to farm\buy splinters and run it. All his legendary drops are bad, and chance of getting high tier omens are miniscule.

tl:dr

Ritual system needs rework.

Every time I tried ritual I felt like I was getting scammed. The entry cost was absurdly high and everything was gated by RNG. If you don't get your purple omens you are completely fucked. I was doing the classic rerolling setup + purchasing setup and dying in the rerolling phase was horrible losing a lot of chances to see omens. Not getting enough tributes to reroll and defer until the end also sucked. In the end there was a lot of anxiety about not being able to see your payoff. In the purchasing phase the worst was when you had accumulated enough tribute but the omens were not appearing despite being deferred, just for them to come up on the subsequent run where you didn't have enough tribute.

Just a garbage system really, def not for me.

Most of it needs a rework lol.

Thanks for the post, now I don't have to bother running Rituals. I had wondered how profitable they could be and was about to start farming them but yeah, nah.

Ritual state as a mechanic is absolutely abysmal /edit

The requirements are the strictest among all mechanics. You need very expensive tablets. You need a specific map layout which won't fuck up your rituals (which sometimes even happens on a good open maps). You need map to have boss to push level to 80 or be corrupted/cleansed with +1 level.

Just for an opportunity to see rare Omen ONCE in 10 maps having an expensive setup used to hunt those.

I don't even want to mention Ritual Tablet Upkeep (keep in mind crafting tablets this league is the cheapest it ever will be due to temple currency influx (chaos orbs/annulment orbs).

This does also not include you not being able to defer an expensive omen (Erasure/Annulment) which appears on later reroll due to insufficient tribute.

Thanks for the data, it sounds like its fucked up lmao.

I will continue to sell all my ritual tablets and wont bother risking my 1 portal map for tiny chance to get something valuable, ty sm.

Yeah gave up on ritual early in the league

Imo the problem is that ritual tablets don't drop when you use a ritual tablet on your maps. So you can't sustain them. Also the drop rates of good omens need tuning. I have a lower sample size than you, but did the exakt same thing with even lower Profits..

Ritual is so bad. The purple omens though, very good!

Yeah, ritual kinda sucks. I also from a design standpoint really dislike the idea of run a bunch of maps, eventually see an omen you want, then defer, defer, defer until you finally buy it. Like the dopamine hit is so drawn out that it's a bit exhausting.

And you're right about whittlings being too rare. I've crafted thousands of divines worth of items this league and my favorite crafts are the ones where I avoid whittling entirely. I've only explicitly used them on my final weapon craft. Maybe that's intentional from GGG, who knows.

i'm sure I bought some of your whittles etc last night when I decided to piss away my 4k div fortune trying to craft a better amulet for myself.

Needless to say it did not turn out well.
