Trade Market For Dummies

Can anyone give some advice for making a little extra currency playing with the trade market? I do enjoy this as a little game within the game but I'm a noob. I don't understand current meta but i would like to learn more. I'm just looking for a starting point or a quick overview of what I can flip without knowing the entire game. Resources? Guides? General tips/tricks? Anything helps.

I know it's late in the league so advice concerning how to deal with that could be helpful.

Buy low, sell higher. Literally all there is to it. This late, you might have to sit on items much longer for less profit. Pick some items you can afford and which are in demand and just watch live search when you're in hideout. You can also buy/sell things like catalysts for different currencies and make a little, but you have to watch the spread and its tedious with little profit.

You can also craft bases for a little profit, but again, this late in league hard to sell things.

Running chaos temple and citadels is pretty profitable as are breach splinters. Citadels you can do twice with the visions tablets. People buy all fragments and splinters.

You can always do arbitrage trading with the currency exchange with 0 knowledge about the meta. Go to poe.ninja and scout for items that is trading with decent volume, then go in-game with Ange to see the spread of bid and ask to see if you can make a profit. Typically you would look for items with not too high volume since the spread is gonna be thin. There should be more tutorials about this on youtube.

I’ve been looking at this in my free time (that isn’t in-game) to get a sense of the value of stuff you find around. Basically abyss and ritual omens are valuable. Fracturing orbs too. The fragments tab shows that people are buying up the calamity fragments, trial of chaos pieces, and expedition and breach splinters. You run logbooks for the expedition splinters, and include a breach tablet in maps will earn you the breach fragments. Lineage support gems from those special maps. The cultivation orbs from the teir 3 sacrificial chamber in temple… play the game and you’ll find plenty of stuff to sell on the currency exchange for profit.

  1. Find things with a difference between the buy and the sell prices. Ideally with a 10% difference or more. Any item on any denomination can work and it changes very quickly so you have to find your trade of choice. A couple seasons back I was trading fracturing orbs. They are a no go this season.
  2. Every successful trade you do on that currency will net you that spread. So if you buy and sell vaals for divines and there's a 7% spread, you get 7% every time. Say divine to vaal has a 7% spread... you buy low, sell high and net the 7% .
  3. Careful with the cost in gold. Each transaction costs gold. Flipping a mirror is about 6m gold I've been told, buying 100div is 80k and buying a couple thousand exalts is 100k iirc. I do divines if I can afford it. I don't have mirrors to trade. That's why you have to find something w a nice spread.
  4. Volume of the trade matters. Buying things in ex or divs is faster than in chaos generally speaking as they are the more popular exchange coins. Volume makes for faster flipping but also more volatility and makes the market more efficient so the spread flattens

People won't generally tell you what asset they're flipping bc you will compete and f up the spread for them. I spend some time finding my niche and it usually only lasts for a while until the market flattens.

I believe ggg has automated market watchers and introduces bulk purchases that makes no sense to flatten too wide spreads. I've seen mirrors worth of asks and puts with the only obvious intention to reset a market that has a 20% spread and an active volume and bring it to a 2% that makes it not worth it.

They had an api you could query and make your tools for this (eg mirrormarket) but as I understand it, now it only gives you last hour values for some denominations and that's not enough. You gave to grind it... just like every fng thing in this game.

First thing is the familiarize yourself with the trade site. Use an extension to be able to save trade searches. This will make your experience way better even without actually flipping.

Then think about what is generally true for any leagues. A few off the top of my head, inflation will always happen and try to hold items that holds value. Mirror items are always desirable, certain jewels are always going to get more expensive as people start to min max. Purple omens usually go up in value over time etc.

Currency exchange is easy. It's a bid ask spread. Pick almost anything that trades a lot, and buy and sell in the middle. You can print currency until you are out of gold.

Things that don't drop in the Vaal temple are proptionally valuable. Breach and expedition shards, along with different fragments and immured furies(fracture orbs) are at a record price. Farm one of those, buy upgrades then farm harder.

Personally, I've been doing Citadels. Usually, you can farm 4 frags from one atlas node. Thats around 60div.

Sell all your crafting mats that you’re too lazy to use. It’s that easy.
