Crafting is not only bad but it also takes away from being exited about loot drops.

It's probably unpopular opinion but what the hell...

I LOVE PoE games. I have over 1000h in PoE1 and now I'm approaching 500h in PoE2.
PoE1 eventually became a game that a bit too fast and too bloated for me so I pretty much quit playing it once PoE2 dropped and I don't regret it.

PoE2 pace is much more fun for me, I enjoy playing through campaign a lot more and classes are fantastic! (Merc and Druid <3)

That being said I have to confess - One of the things I apreciated as a concept but never really liked was crafting system in PoE. For me it took away from loot drops as the game became more about "find a base and then farm currency" instead of being exited about loot drops without a need for any crafting on top of that.

I know that it puts me in minority as most PoE players seem to enjoy it's crafting system.

PoE2 tho was supposed to "fix" this issue by removing crafting station, upgrading the loot system and making it so crafting happens more "on the go" even as you level up and balance loot drops with crafting on top of them instead of crafing being a necessity.

Well... That's not the case.

Not only crafting still is a necessity if you want to push your build higher - taking away from farming loot and focusing on farming currency. But also crafting itself is a total mess.
Crafting in PoE2 could me summarized as "it does something".

It creates a Diablo 2 problem. Runewords were cool and all but nowadays you either farm runes and bases or you're in massive disadvantage because item drops simply can't match the power of strong runeword.
In PoE2 - You either farm currency and use it on a strong base or, again, you are at disadvantage because normal world drops are just not as powerful.

For me - Crafting should be simplified and be way more deterministic and loot pool should be updated to make drops more exiting on their own. (I know - easier said than done)

Hard to call that "Crafting" when u need to press chaos orb 1000 times in order to get modifier you want. As for me chaos spamming is the worst mechanic in POE 2 in general.

ripnburn69•8 months ago•23

I don't craft. I copy paste the mods I want into a trade search.

I quit the game because of the sheer number of different redundant currencies and activities that don't offer any funtional addition to gameply but just additional steps to crafting in endgame.

All those bits and pieces don't offer ANYTHING to gameplay, they're simply there to make you waste 15 minutes of logistics for every 10 minutes of actual playing.

Even crafting itself can feel almost redundant because you can easily buy things at a cost lower than the average crafting cost for that item.

I wish they kept their promise of making PoE2 smarter and more accessible than PoE1, instead they went full PoE1 year 5 level of nonsense.

Well they came out with homog and then decided to make a u-turn.

Even end game uniques are a lottery, you need to hit the corrupt and low probability cultivate for them to be worthwhile. Others like Prism of Belief have low drop and high chance to be worthless, hence PoE becomes a looter where the most efficient way to acquire gear is through farming/trading for currency rather than the drop itself.

Kind of sad because i find it the best arpg in when it comes to character building and gameplay controls but the worst looter, in fact it would be more accurate to label their loot system as "mining".

As someone who only really played Diablo and Torchlight before this in the genre, discovering that the looting seems to be “Pick up this basic looking thing and drop orbs on it to make it good, maybe” is very inaccessible and not particularly fun.

It’s counter to what I’ve come to expect from these games, which is not the biggest issue, but there’s some joy in seeing a big shiny drop that you know there and then is a good upgrade for you.

So far my experience (only level 30 so…) has been “Oh here’s another blue staff… I’ll turn it into a yellow staff, it got slightly better, now I’ll drop some extra bits on it and try and work out if those 6 extra bits are better than the 6 extra bits on my current staff”

I appreciate some folks don’t like the random drop lottery but I don’t see how this is any better, and it’s certainly less exhilarating.

It is kinda deflating when you find a pretty good item, see that it needs a life/res mod to make it better than what youre currently wearing, only to realise theres no way to get that naturally.

I've always wished PoE would reduce the amount of items dropped overall and made them more meaningful. 3rd party addons like loot filters are all but required for QoL, which I've never liked.

Ecstatic_Chard4184•8 months ago•8

They really need to improve tiered rare drops. I would rather see way less Tier 5 items, but when I drop one it should be an exciting moment and the item should actually be good in order to compete with crafted gear.

Ability to craft items from zero to BiS makes any other loot obsolete. The sooner devs realize that the better. It's not ok when only good white bases matter and the rest is being filtered out.

I'd much rather find cool loot than make it myself too, kinda sucks nuts.

My temple adventures for the day

I wanted to add Atrizi to my temple, but I really didn't want to rebuild half of it just to switch the location of the architect. I realized I could just shift my snakes over a little, and end up with the same structure. So I went along and did that, didn't take much time at all. While adjusting my temple I started searching for others that might have attempted this already. Quite a few of the popular early temple guides had used this architect placement. Someone must have had the same thought that I did, and didn't want to rebuild the temple if they didn't have to. Well, I really didn't find anything in my search. I barely found anything at all actually. One lone screenshot showing a very similar temple to mine, but the architect was displaced by one square to the left, the same exact location that mine is in now... Their temple didn't have an access chamber placed though. The only information attached to the image stated that it was a pic from a streamers temple, that had been bricked by the architect moving to a location he shouldn't have. I read through far too many discussions about the architect's movement restrictions, but I wasn't able to find any answers with actual data supporting them. Temple planners weren't able to answer my questions either, and mostly lacked the tools to even experiment. Previously, while testing for my home-brew roman road, the planner was incorrectly refusing to destabilize certain path tiles; so I had little faith in getting an accurate result here anyway. So, a bit frustrated, I decided to just give it a go. I was 80% convinced the temple would be bricked, but I needed to know. So now its my turn to show off my temple of shame. Maybe this information will save someone else from the same fate. I still don't know how this specific interaction works, but I know for sure now that the architect will move to a square with more connections than he currently has, under certain conditions. Having him on the fourth row appears to be required for this strategy. 1: Before I started adjusting my temple 2: After temple adjustments for Atziri 3: Architect ran, access chamber placed, all snakes locked. 4 Close temple, contemplate life choices. I'll post the damage once I run the temple.
