Greater and perfect orbs are bloat

I believe it's a band-aid fix that shouldn't stay in the game. To me it feels like it violates some of the core concepts of PoE. Why don't we have some kind of an omen that culls low-level mods when any currency is applied? Or what if high iLvL bases would be ineligible to roll lowest tier mods?

It feels weird that many types of currencies are becoming obsolete so soon. All currencies shall be relevant and useful no matter how far into the game you've progressed.

I'm not a game designer, but can't there be a more elegant solution for culling low tier mods beside introducing a ton of tiered currency?

it is a band aid solution, they're probably thinking about a different way to do it and we might get that in the future, but please no more omens...

for now it's not a terrible solution imo.

It’s funny that we have the opposite problem with skill gems. You can’t get lower tiers when you want them.

I think if the game let you convert something like 20 exalt to a greater and 40 greater to perfect that will help stabilize the currency’s a bit and maybe help with the problem of the lower tier currency’s being worthless in the end game

They need to simplify the currencies which are actually mats and crafting which is really gambling.

The concept is fine, but Higher-level maps should:

  1. Have a much higher bias towards higher tier currency
  2. Gear that drops should have lower tier mods removed from the pool

An omen that culls low level mods would just be the same thing under a different label.

I'm not sure what game you are playing, but no currency is really obsolete. Currently there isn't much use for greater exalted or chaos orbs because perfect is so plentiful in this league, but that will likely not be true in the future. In the last league there were definitely times to use greater.

As it is now, regular exalted orbs are heavily used rolling maps, precursor tablets and jewels. There's no point using greater or perfect on those.

Regular chaos orbs also get used all the time.

They could easily fix it by allowing us to convert low level orbs into high level orbs.

Lower level mods culling on higher level bases is much more elegant. Let’s say normal and magic items can roll only mods 20 levels below the ilvl and rare items 30 levels below. That would result in ilvl82 bases rolling min 62 level mids as magic or normal and level 52 mods as rare. Would also add a bit more meaning to ilvl.

Omens of greater somethingerother and perfect somethingerother that would apply to the orbs that currently have the normal/greater/perfect combinations may be a more elegant solution, but I don't know that it would be a better experience for players (especially if they end up not having them drop frequently enough)

To me they're the greatest thing to ever happen to SSF lol. Last thing I would ever want is that functionality transferred to an omen.
