Poe 2 and d2 act 1-3 designs

I was just playing d2r recently again and remember thinking that d2 and Poe 2 basically have the same theme for first three acts. 1 is a forest/grassland with towns, 2 is desert, and 3 is jungle. Yeah act 4 is different tbf, I kinda don’t count that cuz d2’s act 4 is the end of campaign.

Anyone know why? Is there an implicit arpg rule about this? Honestly I’m just curious, not trying to criticize or to claim one copied the other.

Its more than that: in both Games in Act 1 you find Deckard Cain who hangs on a tree and identifies stuff for you after you help him, in Act 2 you have to build the horadric staff and the jungle in Act 3 is a nightmare to navigate. Just can't be a coincidence.

Diablo 2 literally inspired GGG to make POE.

People don't realise Blizzard North made D2 and their version of D3 was shutdown as to why Diablo was never the same again.

I recently ran a map that was a reminiscence of a Diablo Boss encounter.

First 3 acts theme (grass/desert/jungle) is obligatory rule for any arpg.

And the graveyard. Always a graveyard in act 1

Yeah they're basically 1:1 matching. I know GGG really loves D2 but for my taste it's a bit TOO copied for my liking. GGG certainly has designed awesome setpieces for each area, and lots of unique pieces that aren't "grabbed" from D2, but for the vibes overall, it really couldn't be more of a copycat, and that's a bit too far for me.

GGG are huge D2 fans. The first Quest is also similar to D2 you have to rescue the Hooded One with runes like Deckard Cain in D2.
