Following via browser

Idk if this is the subreddit for this but hey. So I figured out that if I follow someone from my browser and refresh, it is gone. It just never registers. I tried it on my phone, PC and laptop, all the same. Different browsers give the same. Idk if this is a common issue or in any way fixable? I need to be able to do this from browser so please don't tell me to just use the app pls. Does anyone know a way?
