Why can’t mention country name?

One thing I’ve noticed about Chinese live streams or chats is it’s a rule to not say the country name. Instead of 美国 it’s 漂亮国 or 美区. Can someone share why this is the case? Did something happen? Because normal posts about living abroad don’t really seem to self-censor like this.

I think it's just slang, like how people call Australia the downunder

  1. Censorship bots.

  2. Funny slang, the same way you'd call America Uncle Sam, calling Trump Orange Man, etc. Chinese netizens also has their sense of humor however alien it is.

Rednote and Shipinhao/Douyin all run on very strict AI controls. So in order to basically avoid any flagging of an account, you don't say those words. At the end of the day, they don't know what you're talking about when you mention that country, or they don't know what's going to come next... so it's just easier for them to censor it.

In terms of how the AI responds, it's more of a "block first, question later" type of workflow. Even when a stream does get cut, you're simply advised "a penalty of 10 minutes has been applied"... if you want to know more and call DY for assistance, they won't tell you exactly why because the customer service people actually have no idea.

So because of the sheer amount of people who are livestreaming, it's just easier to avoid those kinds of words rather than have your account stricted and in turn, your stream then shadowbanned.

There are a whole list of things you're not allowed to discuss. There are lists of these words circulating... you also shouldn't talk about airport security if teaching/talking about airports for an English lesson or whatever.

You can do it all in English though, none of that gets picked up. When I livestream I mainly speaking in Chinese, but if I need to talk about "在机场过安检“ then I just say in Chinese "at the airport" and then in English go through security... so my sentence is broken up.

Young people give nicknames to everything.

Saying the name directly is boring, and these words actually have some semantic differences. "美区" refers to the account's location, while "漂亮国" carries a somewhat ironic or humorous connotation.

At first it was a way to avoid censorship but overtime it became sort of a culture of using different slangs for stuff, some slangs are still made because of censorship but a lot of newer slangs are just people think its funny

Making the Jump from TikTok to Rednote(Xiaohongshu)? Here’s What You Need to Know

So you’re thinking about switching (or at least dabbling) from TikTok to **Rednote** (aka Xiaohongshu)? Here’s a quick rundown on what to expect and how to adapt: 1. **Different Vibe** * **TikTok** is all about short, snappy videos—dances, trends, and memes. * **Rednote** leans more toward lifestyle tips, product reviews, and personal stories. Think mini-blogs rather than just quick clips. 2. **Less is More—or Is It?** * On **TikTok**, you can go viral with a 15-second masterpiece. * On **Rednote**, people actually read captions and appreciate detailed posts. Don’t be afraid to write a bit more and share personal insights. 3. **Engage with the Community** * Responding to comments is key on both platforms, but **Rednote** users expect a friendlier, more helpful approach. Focus on real interaction rather than just racking up views. 4. **Use Relevant Hashtags & Keywords** * **TikTok** hashtags can be trendy and fleeting. * **Rednote** hashtags and keywords should be more targeted, especially if you’re reviewing products or sharing how-to tips. 5. **Be Ready for Culture Shifts** * The **Rednote** audience often loves beauty, travel, fashion, and “real-life” hacks. * If you’re pivoting from dance challenges, consider experimenting with lifestyle or review content to fit the platform’s style. 6. **Quality Over Quantity** * While **TikTok** can reward frequent posting, **Rednote** might favor fewer, well-thought-out posts that really resonate. High-quality visuals and genuine storytelling go a long way. Got questions about Rednote? Drop ’em below—always happy to help a fellow content creator make the jump!

The ban isn't really about privacy concerns

Why exactly? You and me know why America is banning tiktok... They can't control the narrative their like they do with Facebook or Instagram YouTube. etc The genocide in Gaza was being shown in its full without any kind of censorship... And daddy israel doesn't like that so the AIPAC who's holding the American politicians by the balls... Forced them into banning the app.... It's not about privacy or any of that.... Remember edward Snowden.? I rest my case.

Y'all know why Trump suddenly became "pro-TikTok" right?

Say it with me....because he and his oligarch buddies are getting worried Americans are waking up to the truth about the anti-China propaganda BS in Red Note and will either demand better conditions or go full socialist.
