I LOVE it when men talk to other men like this. Men won’t listen to women. We need more of this and less of Andrew Tate.
This was communicated really well. It’s worth noting that social media trends that piss you off literally WHY you see them on your phone or computer. Like we know the algorithm does it and it’s easy when people are asked to write a line by line dissertation and justification on a “feeling” they had at a time in their lives.
So maybe try not responding to the strings pulls by that puppet master algorithm. Maybe say “I won’t dance for you” instead of feverishly typing sometimes. It helps put a lot in context.
Edit: oh and don’t go searching for nuance in this thread. Abandon all hope ye who enter here
I suppose the easiest way to detect troublesome men is to post something like this. Comments here are a damn graveyard.
“And that maybe if you’re a good guy you can brush it off your shoulder” this is the important part for all the guys that behave the way we’re supposed to. If you aren’t a problem just realize you have nothing to worry about and move on.
As a man, it kinda annoyed me at first, because how can every man be a predator just by default? But now I'm translating it in my head to: "All men ... are capable of terrible things. Even myself, even yearslong friends." And that makes perfect sense to me and hopefully leads to better behaviour in all of us by checking our internalized patriarchy on the regular.
I was so ready to disagree. I really thought this video was going to be something else, gender bashing is wrong no matter the gender and I hear a lot of people getting lost in the hate aspect. But this point is so eloquent, considered and nuanced it puts my own explanation of my position to shame.
I wish this guy would go viral, or hold some public speaking. Because we need more of this empathy and consideration in the world.
Genuinely impressed.
My favorite exchange on "all men" was something like...
Men are natural protectors
Response:
"not all men"
Replace all men with blacks and you suddenly understand why people might not be okay with others in your group gaining you a bad reputation. Do other black folk commit crime? Yes! Do I as a black person deserve extra scrutiny because of that fact? Absolutely not. Same goes for men, same goes for everyone. Judge people based on their actions, not their skin color or genitalia.
As a man, I never felt attacked when a woman said she hated all men. Most likely she's just venting about how she's not open to putting her trust out there at the moment. But, even if she literally hated all men, why would you care about the opinion of such a person? If she was an actual danger to boys and random men, I would understand wanting her locked away, but that's way different than a woman venting frustration about the opposite sex.
I just had a weird thought come across my mind. What would it feel like to worry if a woman might physically assault me?
