Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders is under diagnosed and often takes place within cycles of poverty
It's because people aren't educated or self aware enough to change the cycle. So, like their parents theyre fooled by these deadbeats or are them.
The true change starts with supporting people's educations, working to stop substance abuse issues and probably therapy.
I worked with developmentally delayed adults and every single one of the women was sexually abused, often by men that they thought "loved" them. Many had their own family pimp them out for extra money even though they didn't even know what was going on. For some of them it was clear the abuse is what messed them up in the first place. Horrifically sad and not talked about enough.
Yeah, I had a friend whose mom was developmentally disabled. And then when her dad died, the kids had to drop everything to care for their mom.
Bruh…Unfortunately I really needed to hear this tonight. I’m a victim of the aftermath of this situation. I’m the guy who comes and sweep up the mess and it’s completely mind boggling. I feel bad for drawing these conclusions but now I see it’s not just a feeling. Other people notice it as well and you just spoke truth.
This happened to my cousin. She was 15 years old when I was 11. Held back two years in school. Couldn't read properly. We were literally still playing with barbies the year before. Got pregnant by a 19 year old. At 15 she is still a kid but realistically she had the mind of a 10 year old. She went on to continue to have more children. Many with physical and mental disabilities. She's in her late 30's and she just had another kid after maybe a 10 year break of having kids. She still can't read.
I don’t know if this is that but narcissistic poeple often hook up with autistic people. They have the control and power that way and also their selfish nature tends to rub a sensitive person wrong. So they can Me Me Me all they want.
Some people with intellectual disabilities can be good parents, and deserve happiness too. Before you judge a family you don’t know, don’t assume that she did not want her children and would have been better off without them, or that her children would have been better off without her.
My mom is slow to the point a doctor told my grandma that she should have my mom sterilized to prevent her from having kids and I kinda agree with the doctor. She didn't raise me, my grandma did, but she absolutely got taken advantage of by men and she wasn't capable of realizing when it was happening. She wasn't a good mom and I can't even be mad at her because of her mental disability; I just feel bad for her.
The men aren’t right either. Truth.
