I’d actually try this, mainly because current feeds mix everything and it’s hard to intentionally choose a mood. Sometimes you want pure learning, other times just mindless scrolling. Separate modes could make the experience feel more controlled.

The key would be how fast and accurate the switching feels. If I tap “Tech” and still see random content, it breaks the idea. Each mode would need a clearly trained feed, almost like independent mini algorithms.

One concern is fragmentation. If engagement is split across modes, creators might struggle to know where to post. You might need posts to live in multiple modes or let creators tag content. Otherwise some feeds could feel empty early on.

It might also work better as a layer on top of one feed. Start mixed, then users refine into modes over time. That keeps discovery while still giving control.

You could prototype the switching experience and feed behavior quickly using Runable, just to see if users actually switch modes often or stick to one. If people actively change modes, then the idea probably has real demand.
