[new account advice] Why does my TikToks get decent views (broke a million) but no followers?

I’ve been posting on TikTok for about a month (started early march completely new account) now and I’m kinda stuck on the follower part, this is my first time making content ever after my company started laying people off so I got spooked and made it on a whim.

My content is basically just me questioning stuff that never made sense to me (floating head content). Not really educational, more like “wait… why is this like this?” type videos. I try to post once or twice a day 20-30 sec videos.

Some stats:

currently ~300 followers 

  • a few videos did pretty well (total~1.7m views) :
    • ~255k views (20k likes, ~100 comments, 800 favs, 110 shares)
    • ~550k views (42k likes, ~300 comments 1.6k favs, 400 shares)
    • ~437k views (41k likes, ~400 comments, ~3k favs, 100 shares)
    • 4-5 more videos between 25k-80k 

Those were either:

  • random “hidden system” things people didn’t know
  • or stuff people argue about (like fashion trends feeling forced)

My best performing videos:

  • retention is actually solid (like 50–70%)
  • people comment
  • and basically no followers from it

So for example a video from 2 days ago has 42k views 3k likes 300 comments and 1k shares with 80% completion rate and 40% watched full video, but only 13 new followers

So I’m kinda confused what’s missing.

It feels like people watch and go “huh interesting” and just scroll.

I’m tried to start a series like:
“day X of things that never made sense to me”
so people have a reason to follow

Main things I’m wondering:

  • what actually makes someone follow from this kind of content?
  • is this a content problem or just how I’m positioning it?
  • how do you make this type of video more “send this to someone” instead of just watch and scroll?
  • Do I have to bite the cringe bullet and ask people to share and follow?

Also ive been told that even though im in my early 30s (millenial) i look really young like early 20s and even sometimes late teens, does that hurt my credibility or something? Also Im a guy which probaly effects it too.

I think a video needs to give value in order to get people to follow. For example, I posted a vid that went viral last week but it had no value. It was just a silly vid of me talking about my hair- barely got any follows. Then this week I posted my hair routine and gave tons of tips and advice for people with my hair type, video again went viral and I gained almost 5k followers. Both vids got over 1M views. Value!

You're making "huh interesting" content not "I need more of this person" content. Big difference. People follow when they feel a personality or a specific take, not just a random observation. Right now you're a question machine, not a character they're invested in.

In general audience growth (followers) is down everywhere. With how algorithms are designed now with recommended content, you don’t need to follow accounts to see the content you like. As a result, people are less incentivized to follow new accounts.

your content is entertaining enough to watch but not specific enough to follow. that’s the gap. people follow when they think “this person is going to keep posting stuff i need.” right now a stranger doesn’t know what they’re signing up for. pick one specific angle and stick with it for 2 weeks. people follow topics, not series titles. looking young isn’t hurting you. confidence in delivery matters way more.

Any people that runs 100 to 10k followers pages (any social media)?

Hey all, I own a business that involves many clients that promote their product, art or website with TikTok (also Instagram, Youtube and Facebook). I want to offer them a way to post their content, or to get content created and posted for them on existing TikTok pages. Basically you got pages in a specific theme (sport, anime, cinema, culture, memes...) and you rent it for a specific period of time. You get paid every month, and all you have to do is basically connecting the account once to our system. You can opt-out anytime you want, you keep the full ownership of the account. That's basically a way to monetize your pages passively. For now I'm doing it myself with my own pages (3 tiktok pages with 500 to 3k followers, and 1 6k subscribers Youtube channel), I made around $800 renting these for less than a month.
