God’s forgiveness? It doesn’t have to be this way

There’s a bunch of things in Christianity that don’t make sense. Praying to god for anything goes against having faith in your god. What happens to all the good people in the world that aren’t Christian? Do those people deserve to burn in hell because they are a different religion? How could anyone be okay with that?

It’s almost like religion, as a general matter, is a control mechanism.

I'll forgive you for using this logic, but God will not... oh... wait... I see your point.

Ok well not that anyone on here is going to pay attention to this or give it any credit because judging by the comments most people are pretty firm in their atheism but one of the things this video overlooks is that God basically sacrifices himself to pay the wages of sin which is death.

Furthermore, this video doesn’t seem to understands that sin isn’t just doing bad things, it’s a spiritual crime against the very moral foundations of the universe for which justice must be done. Humans are so innately sinful that no amount of good deeds (something with no clear definition and heavily dependent on the subjective perspective of an individual) can make up for it. God is just and so must punish crime but he is also merciful and so he sacrifices himself to atone for the sins of the world. The literal creator of the universe, the judge of the trial against your sins, takes your place on death row and in many traditions experiences the punishment of hell. But then he returns and this breaks the cycle.

Yes, it is perhaps cruel that many billions did not and will not achieve salvation because they did not or could not accept Christ’s mercy but this is why we place such a tremendous amount of importance on missionary work. We want everyone to at least have the chance to see the message of Christ and choose whether to believe or not. I will also say that many self proclaimed Christians themselves will not enter into heaven because Christ “does not know them, though they proclaim to know him”.

Maybe this doesn’t answer everything well and you’re welcomed to call it all bullshit. It’s what I believe but I also know it’s a very hard and seemingly cruel thing to believe in. I will not be one to sit here and tell you that you should be on your knees with gratitude to a being you feel is unjust. All I know is Easter makes me reflect on the harm I’ve done to others through the millions of little petty cruelties I’ve done and that for Christ’s sake I must do better and be kinder.

So, get this: what if Jesus was just a really popular guy 2000 years ago who pointed this out? And then the Roman government discover there's this young-30's dude (who makes it a point to break social/economic barriers and is dating a retired prostitute) going around telling people that their only true allegiance isnt to an emperor or to an unjust judgemental deity, but to the general concept of good and empathy that humans seem uniquely capable of? That what we'd thought about as the "Truth" of Good and Evil was right in front of us all along, inherent in our humanity, and that because of that, we are all children of this concept? And that this concept IS God - the whole "God is Love" thing? And that, in that way, he, and ALL of us who believe in such a concept, are "sons of God"?

And then the Romans decided to kill the guy because he's basically endorsing an anti-heirarchical approach to social standing and an proto-communist approach to economy - and then, 300 years later, some guys got together and decided to write a whole bunch of stories about Jesus that re-framed a lot of the stuff he did and said as miracles and parables that were reflective of the socio-economic structure THEY wanted to be popularized with a hero-narrative? And then decided to make HIM the ACTUAL "son of God" so as to completely divorce him from humanity, which they thence reinforce to be infused with sin until ONLY their version of Jesus provides salvation?

Hey, wasn't this sort of the plot of The Da Vinci Code?

Even so, I truly believe that this is probably what happened with the whole thing.

God didn’t make up anything. People did. That includes God/Gods.

Why would a parent need their child to praise them?

The Sacificial animal is proof of devotion because you're willing to give up something important... and in agrarian societies livestock are currency.

In modern times the church just wants a sacrifice of CASH !!! Lots and lots of CASH!!!
