Twitter/X algorithm in 2026: what I have learned from 300+ days of daily posting
Been posting daily on X for almost a year. Here is what I have observed about the algorithm:
What the algorithm rewards:
- Consistency above all. Daily posting at the same time = more reach per post. Miss 3 days and your next 5 posts get suppressed.
- Early engagement matters. The first 30 minutes determine everything. Reply to every comment quickly.
- Threads outperform singles. 3-tweet threads get roughly 3x the impressions of standalone tweets.
- Original content > retweets. The algorithm clearly favors original tweets over quote tweets and retweets.
- Links in replies, not main tweet. Tweets with external links get suppressed. Put the link in the first reply.
What does NOT matter (despite what gurus say):
- Hashtags (minimal impact on X in 2026)
- Posting 5x per day (1 quality post > 5 mediocre ones)
- Following/unfollowing strategies (does not work and gets you flagged)
My posting routine: Batch content weekly, schedule with my tool, review once mid-week. Total time: 20 min/week. The consistency is what matters, not how you achieve it.
Happy to answer questions about specific tactics.
