Idk if it was done intentionally, but would have been nice if the person wasn’t covering up all the images/title of the study with their big ole non-invisible face.
So I could have a gorilla in my lungs right now and not even know it!
Jane Goodall:
Not even hid. That is a bold as brass sticker of a gorilla.
This is proving “Inattentional Blindness”. When you look at things repeatedly, your brain almost autocompletes it allowing you to miss obvious changes. So someone who doesn’t look at radiographs all day would see the gorilla almost immediately, while the radiologist misses it. Challenging the question of repetition, if it is actually beneficial for the brain. And if not, what is the ideal length of time before Inattentional Blindness occurs, and how can that be avoided?
If im a radiologist thinking im taking a serious exam for research and a random gorilla showed up id probably think an intern printed a mistake on the page
My blind self surely would've missed it.

It's just part of being human. It takes a lot of discipline to train yourself not to go blind to the mundane as well. When I worked in a store that required me to manually enter in the exact amount to charge client cards (while talking to them etc) I trained myself to point at the screen on the card reader, then at the total on my other screen and say it aloud. With this technique I was able to reduce any errors on my end to zero.
I realize situational inattentiveness isn't quite the same as what I'm describing, but I think similar methods alleviate this problem as well—such as forcibly opening your eyes into *active* mode before scanning the street to make a turn. It prompts your brain not to be a lazy shit, at least I find this to work, regardless of how weird I might look 🤣
TLDR: if it is important work, develop methods of crosschecking and forcing your brain into "new information" mode.
Well with her face in the middle of everything how the fuck can I see a goddamn gorilla? It's funny her smugness is coming through in pointing the smugness of others out. It's nice that she is entertained though.
