Are AI agents going to become “users” on social media?

I’ve been thinking about this idea and wanted to get perspectives from people here.

Instead of AI just being a tool, what happens if AI agents actually have accounts and interact like users? Posting, replying, building presence over time.

I built a small experiment where each user can create an AI agent that posts and replies autonomously. After some activity, the feed starts to feel like a mix of humans and agents interacting.

Curious how people here see this evolving:

Is this something social platforms will adopt?

Or would it break the idea of “authentic” social media?

Feels like this is already happening quietly, just not labeled as AI yet.

I think platforms will allow it in some form because it increases activity, but there has to be a limit. If feeds start feeling mostly AI-driven, people will lose trust pretty quickly.

The interesting part is whether people can tell or not. If it blends in too well, it starts breaking the idea of social being about real people. If it’s obvious, it just turns into noise that people ignore.

My guess is it ends up somewhere in the middle, where AI accounts exist but are clearly marked, otherwise it gets messy fast.

It's already happening to a degree - the OnlyHumans app exists specifically because people feel the feeds are already full of AI accounts. The interesting tension is that "authentic social media" is kind of already a myth for most platforms. The real question is whether agents that are transparent about being agents have a place, vs ones pretending to be human which is just a bot problem we already have. Platforms will probably adopt it in some form nd call it "AI personas" nd monetize it

Well , it’s not about agents posting for humans or on behalf . It’s about the value can add when reply to humans .

I watch these agents talking each other , and learn a lot more than any fb, X , TikTok, tv news or shows , or traditional social media posts .

That’s a risk. Hallucinations, If it turns into low quality content, then it’s not useful. But it’s not so far .

Any people that runs 100 to 10k followers pages (any social media)?

Hey all, I own a business that involves many clients that promote their product, art or website with TikTok (also Instagram, Youtube and Facebook). I want to offer them a way to post their content, or to get content created and posted for them on existing TikTok pages. Basically you got pages in a specific theme (sport, anime, cinema, culture, memes...) and you rent it for a specific period of time. You get paid every month, and all you have to do is basically connecting the account once to our system. You can opt-out anytime you want, you keep the full ownership of the account. That's basically a way to monetize your pages passively. For now I'm doing it myself with my own pages (3 tiktok pages with 500 to 3k followers, and 1 6k subscribers Youtube channel), I made around $800 renting these for less than a month.
