Honestly it's a solid tactic

FWIW I've heard in some folklore that you can use the Bugs Bunny distraction method on spirits. In some stories you can escape the Slit Mouth Woman spirit in Japan by confusing her. Like when she asks "do you think I'm pretty?" responding with something like "do you think I'M pretty??" or "you look so so" will confuse her long enough to gtfo with your face intact 

I used to be an actor at a haunted attraction. Absolutely loved when guests would get goofy with it
