I coded a hardcore cyberpunk evasion game in Rust 🦀 (WINDJET: Kinetic Overdrive - Demo Out Now for Windows/Linux!)
Hey everyone!
I just wrapped up the development of my new arcade passion project: **WINDJET: Kinetic Overdrive**.
It’s a bare-metal, top-down evasion arcade game built entirely in **Rust** using the **Macroquad** library. No bloatware, optimized memory, and compiling with absolute 0 warnings.
The core gameplay loop is heavily focused on "Game Feel" and intense kinetic management:
* **Pure Inertia Physics:** Your ship has no brakes. You have to drift, slide, and anticipate your trajectory to dodge waves of deadly red obstacles.
* **Vectorial Grid & Juiced FX:** Dynamic grid background that slides based on your speed, combined with satisfying cyan particle bursts when collecting bonuses.
* **Interactive Cyber-Shop:** Collect neon credits during runs to buy shields or overclock your thrusters (+15% speed) between waves using your mouse, keyboard, or Numpad.
* **Onboarding Difficulty:** The demo features 5 progressive waves. Waves 1-3 are relatively chill to let you farm credits, Wave 4 triggers a flashing Red Overdrive warning, and Wave 5 is a pure, chaotic finale.
The full version is ready to scale up to 20 waves.
Check out the 5-minute gameplay trailer linked below, grab the standalone binary for Windows or Linux on Itch, and tell me what you think! Can you survive all 5 waves?
