"what painters wanted us to see" 🙄 as an artist myself, this makes me very angry

Van Gogh didn't want anyone to see anything in that painting. He made that as an art therapy project while he was voluntarily institutionalized for his schizophrenia which he ended up dying from a year later.

If anything, his works were just for him and his family to view as proof he was feeling well enough to paint again.

Almond Flowers was the only painting he actually made specifically for someone else. And that was for his brother and sister-in-law as a thank you gift for naming their only child after him

I would hope most people with critical thinking skills realize art is valuable specifically because someone made it and it being hard to make is what gives it value to people. Art stops being valuable when it isn't an expression of effort and devotion through the lens of the human mind.
