Imagine being able to be awoken by the sound of a pin drop.

This actually was a real method people used to time their sleep schedule, especially if they have an important thing to do in the morning. Though a common issue was the flame would go out, it accidentally burning one self if they move around too much in their sleep.

There were also some candleholders built for this specific use, which causes the noise of the pin fall to be amplified louder

People always seem to ask how people got up early in the morning before alarm clocks, but this is how, and one of several methods used.

There’s also some devices which claps or cause mechanisms to go off when the candle reaches a specific height, which causes a racket.
