Then my uncle got heavily into Kiss and his "whoopie hat" (it was a Jughead hat) stopped showing up

Goober Pyle, from the Andy Griffith Show, was also famous for his whoopie hat, but in his case, it was more about presenting him as a backwards bumpkin.
