Is anyone else completely sick of tiktok turning genuinely devastating songs into "meme music"??
so i was listening to dean lewis the other day (specifically "be alright") and i forgot how hard that song actually hits. like, the whole story about finding out you got cheated on and staring at your screen completely broken. i actually know and like the song for what it is.
but then i remembered what tiktok and youtube shorts did to it and it just sucks.
it literally turned the most tragic line of the song—"it doesnt matter put the phone away"—into a literal skit template where the creator plays a teacher. like i just saw one where the world is literally ending, meteors are hitting the school, and the teacher is just lip-syncing directly to the lyrics pointing at the student to put their phone away while they all die. like you serious right now??
seeing stuff like that is just literal proof of how much internet culture sucks now. they take a 15-second snippet, speed it up, and completely erase the actual song just to make a literal joke out of a teacher yelling at a kid.
its like a song doesnt even exist to these people outside of the one viral part. do people not care about the actual art or meaning anymore? it feels like music is just becoming disposable background noise for brain rot jokes at this point.
idk maybe im just overreacting but it makes me so mad. anyone else feel this way?
