Yes, but no. The screw worm used to be found in the US, but we pushed it south with the flies. We can push it back south again with a LOT of funding. It made more economic sense for upkeep to keep it South than it will to eradicate it again.

They bred sterile flies. Not just "horny flies". It's probably going to take years to get it to the point it used to be. I remember reading the line for that was panama. Now they are here.

Friendly reminder that Jimmy Carter dedicated his life to eradicating guinea worm, one of the nastiest parasites on the planet. It's transmitted by drinking stagnant water, and a year after ingestion the worm starts to burrow its way out of the host. This is both extremely painful and debilitating to quality of life; kids can't go to school, adults can't work—everything stops.
