That's the larvae of a wood boring beetle of some kind. My dude now gets to check all his cabinets and furniture for more because they will eat everything. FWIW, though, I don't think that's a problem peculiar to any one retailer. Beetles get into trees and woodpiles everywhere, regardless of the source, and even heat treating the wood to kill parasites isn't a guarantee that they can't lay eggs there after treatment.
Separately, you shouldn't be using knives on stone, anyway. That destroys the knife.
Has nothing to do with Ross, but that is pretty neat. People often forget we are a part of the natural world, wood comes from trees, and cotton comes from bushes. Might get a work in your Apple or your cutting board. It just be like that sometimes.
(Has bettle infestation in home)
How could Ross do this?!
That came from your cabinet. 🫡
Powderpost beetle. Wood wasn’t dried properly or it sat around too long after drying. Not really Ross’ fault. In fact, I’m sure Ross would like to know so they can bring it up to their supplier.
a couple I know bought an expensive dining table that was custom made and shipped from Türkiye. about a month later they noticed a small pinhole in the table, then another, and another. then they see something wiggling inside the hole...it was a tiny larvae boring it's way out. doesn't matter where you get it, this can happen with some types of wood.
I mean…it’s Ross
At least wait to see what it becomes after its larval stage. Maybe a cool new pet!
This is potentially a very serious problem as the cutting board was likely made overseas. Therefore there is the potential for a new pest to be introduced into the country. Reaching out to the state forester or US customs would be a really good idea as this board is probably not the only one infested.
