I'm starting from zero in social media marketing. No experience, no portfolio, and no clients. My goal isn't to get rich overnight. I'd be happy just landing my first paying client within the next 4 months.

I'm also decided to documenting the journey on Instagram and sharing everything, wins and failures alike.

Four months is realistic for a first small client if you treat it like an apprenticeship, not an agency launch. I would pick one simple offer, like 8 short-form posts plus basic scheduling for a local service business, then build 2 or 3 sample audits from real public accounts so people can see your thinking. Spend the first month learning hooks, basic editing, analytics, and writing captions, then use months 2 through 4 doing low-risk outreach to businesses where you can point to specific fixes. Documenting the journey can help, but do not let it replace reps with actual businesses and feedback.

Damn. That is quite ballsy. I’ve been doing social media marketing for more than 15 years. But always as an employee and never freelance.

What skills should you learn? All of them. This includes but is not limited to:
Prompt writing, copy writing, storytelling, writing story boards, graphic design (e.g. adobe creative suite), content management and its different tools, community management, how to set up ads including tracking pixels for websites, how to create custom audiences in business suites, social strategy, analysis, how to report KPIs. And these only apply to actual skills wanted not the business skills of networking and co.

You could also focus on one and become a master in it. But a lot of brands/clients are looking for someone who does it all.

Build your portfolio there's no excuse not to. You'll learn a lot by doing. Update it in six months and trash stuff that feels novice then keep doing that

Literally. And don't waste time on a site yet. Just find a niche you like and message five shops near you daily.

Offer to handle their accounts for two weeks for free if they'll give you a shoutout (which is basically the secret sauce) later on. so once you've landed that first person you'll ahve the nerve to actually ask for money. No cap. But just keep it simple and get them some likes or whatever so you've got real proof to show off.

honest answer since you asked. the thing actually stopping you isn't experience, it's proof, and proof is manufacturable fast. roadmap: pick ONE niche (local gyms, restaurants, dentists, whatever you can physically reach), then offer to run social for 2-3 of them free or near-free for 60 days in exchange for real results and a testimonial. that's your portfolio. then use those results to land paid clients in the exact same niche. with that approach, first paying client in 4 months is very doable, plenty do it faster. the skill to obsess over isn't "social media," it's getting a business an actual result (leads, bookings, sales), not pretty posts. that's what people pay for. what i'd do differently starting over: niche down way sooner (generalists starve) and sell outcomes, not hours. and documenting the journey is smart, do it, your first client might literally come from people watching you try.

Any people that runs 100 to 10k followers pages (any social media)?

Hey all, I own a business that involves many clients that promote their product, art or website with TikTok (also Instagram, Youtube and Facebook). I want to offer them a way to post their content, or to get content created and posted for them on existing TikTok pages. Basically you got pages in a specific theme (sport, anime, cinema, culture, memes...) and you rent it for a specific period of time. You get paid every month, and all you have to do is basically connecting the account once to our system. You can opt-out anytime you want, you keep the full ownership of the account. That's basically a way to monetize your pages passively. For now I'm doing it myself with my own pages (3 tiktok pages with 500 to 3k followers, and 1 6k subscribers Youtube channel), I made around $800 renting these for less than a month.
