State-issued ID cards (non-DL) acceptable for age verification?

I am trying to assist my older teenager complete age verification. Because he is unable to drive and ineligible for a DL, we are considering getting him a state-issued ID card.

Are such state-issued ID cards usable to verify age?

In Texas, these ID cards look similar to DLs, except they are vertically-oriented. Attached is an example from the TX DPS site compared to a DL.

This is such a bad idea.
Age verification is a terrible idea and it’s gonna mess up his life.
It’s not hard to hack and get that information and with that information your whole life is cooked. Could access your bank, get your money, scaddaddle, you would never catch the guy… Maybe if he’s dumb, but it’s now hard to get away with.
My honest advice: Don’t give in to age verification.

I’ve used my California state ID, though it was a REAL ID and I was early 20s when I did. Not sure if that would change things.

Texas state IDs work for TikTok age verification, they're government issued photo IDs just without driving privileges. The vertical orientation doesn't matter, the system just needs to read your kid's info and photo.

I hope you don't mind your older teen's data being sold because of your mindless compliance to a social media company. Best of luck!

I wouldn’t be giving TikTok my driver’s license or id information. Seems shady as fuck

Wouldn’t see why not. But I would absolutely not do this at all. It isn’t a requirement and I don’t even know how the hell you got to a point where it asks for that I’ve never seen age verification on TikTok and I watch it for 3-6 hours a day (I know that’s bad)

Doubt that it would matter. My state gives verticals to anyone under 21!

Yes, and passports as well. They will actually issue you a passport card as well if you ask for one when getting or renting you passport. It's what I use for everything, because I'm never going back to the DMV and the occasional ticket for driving without a license is more pallatable.

I didn’t get a license until I was 26 due to (corrected) health issues. I never had any issues using a state ID.

There shouldn't be a problem with using that for age verification. The only difference between an ID and a DL is the permission to operate a motor vehicle (not getting into the enhanced, Real ID, etc just the ID/DL themselves).
