Follow up video to my post about a mother making her newly HS graduated daughter pay rent and get a job: she intends in taking her financial aid and loans
Yesterday, I posted a video about how a mother made her newly graduated daughter pay rent and get job while she going to attend college in the fall. It has garnered significant attention and comments from redditors who had experienced this and the ones who offered their perspective.
I posted this follow up video via comments, but I believe it needs to be recognized. She claims that she "forced" her daughter apply for financial aid and student loans. She intends on taking it all once it processes. She compares this to paying room and board at a college.
The Department of Education states that, unless the mother did a ParentPLUS loan under her own name, the student loans under the daughter's name are for the student to pay for their educational expenses, such as rent and food. While these can be argued in the daughter's situation, this mother outright saying she plans on taking the money for herself does sway into the definitions of fraud and/or misappropiation.
Others had mentioned that it could be ragebait. It may as well be, but with the multiple video about this and her other TikToks talking about how she has been using child support for cruises and vacations, I am led to believe that this is intentional and she is doing this for her own personal enrichment.
While the right thing to do is to call her out, it would be also right to file a OIG complaint against her because they handle these kinds of fraud and abuse cases on private citizens. She is setting up her daughter for failure by giving her even more indebtedness while gaining money off of her effort.
