As a person works in a psych unit, it is a little alarming how on point this is, to an extent.
How do I help one of my friends who's going in that direction? He genuinely treats the shitty new AI tool he's using like it's sentient. He makes social media videos of their conversations and he thinks it's so cool and it'll catch on but it's so cringe. I've tried to gently nudge him and push back but he's fully bought in.
No joke, I was at the grocery store last night and someone was on their phone at the other end of the aisle. I heard them talking on speaker and figured they were talking to a roommate or SO or friend or something. But when I got closer, I heard him say "so what chips should I get?" A perfectly normal question I'd think, but then I heard the AI voice saying something to the effect of "well since we already decided on dinner tonight, here's a few options that would completely that meal perfectly" and I just decided to keep walking past.
