Your much needed reminder of being aware for fake businesses and phishing your number

I didn't know this was a thing last year, apparently towing companies are rife with them.

I called what looked like a local towing place and it all seemed legitimate over the phone, but after the deadline of 30mins came and went I got antsy and looked through their company page and saw spelling errors and multiple addresses.

I copy and pasted some paragraphs from their page and searched it, and a whoooole bunch of the same exact page (with different company names) popped up for different states. I had already paid $300+ and gave them my name and address. I was pissed, but more at myself for falling for such a simple scam.

It worked out somehow though, they actually called a place in town on my behalf and sent a wrecker to my place. The driver said that I paid twice what I should've, so the fake company pocketed a good chunk.

Always do your due diligence

Just had the same experience with a locksmith. Pissed me off and when i called them out on this, they hung up and blocked my number.

This dude just now discovered this? Before this businesses were using P.O. Boxes. This is nothing new.

Fake reviews really need to be looked at because how are we supposed to gauge the quality of things if everything is fake?

wow, i thought this was just a middleman company. you call them, they call a real plumber, they keep X percent. just a fake company for lead generation, thats even worse

Had it happen to me recently with a mobile repair service, down 650 that I'm struggling to get back, shit sucks dude.

And when Howard the dropout decides to pivot they will sell him Howard's plumbing with 5 star stellar reviews so he can get his foot into the industry.
