Did you go deep on one channel early, or spread out first?
When we started I basically threw us at every channel at once. X, Reddit, LinkedIn, Instagram, cold email, a few Discord and Slack communities.
What I didn't expect is how different each one feels. X wants you loud and constantly there. Reddit punishes you the second you sound like marketing. Instagram wants visuals I don't have the time or skill to make. Cold email is pure numbers and I never enjoy sending them.
LinkedIn is the one actually working for us so far. People reply, conversations turn into calls, and posts keep getting seen for days instead of dying in an hour. I'm still not sure if that's because of who our users are or just because my writing fits better there.
So I'm curious how others handled this:
- Did you pick one channel early and go deep, or try everything and then cut?
- Which channel surprised you, good or bad?
- Do you separate "where I keep up with news in my space" from "where I actually talk to people"? For me those turned out to be two different problems and I wasted time treating them as one.
Numbers welcome, but gut feeling is fine too.
