There are people like this bloke who had his eyes opened by travel and talking to locals but there are also people for whom travel does nothing.

I am native in Greece and just to let you know, I visited Athens for the very first time in my life a few years ago just for the firefighter exam, tourists think that we are lucky to have all that beauty when in reality most greeks won't be able to visit the places tourists go for vacation, most greeks when they go for vacation it will be for a few days most of the time, don't get me started with the food here, where the average gyro now costs 4€.

If everyone could travel many of us would be kinder to one another.

I guarantee you that a lot of privileged people travel and take nothing away from it. You need to be already empathetic and open minded etc to be able to acknowledge your privilege. A Kardashian for example traveling anywhere in the world would still see people just as props, servants and peasants.

But generally traveling both to places that are better and worse off can definitely help some people

The fact that it's easier to get into developing countries than first world countries should not be news or surprising to anyone.

yeah ive been planning a trip with some friends and we were excited about only paying <3k, but since we’re college students some of them said that’s a huge amount they absolutely couldn’t afford. Makes you really think about how lucky you are, and also kinda scares you cuz you wonder if you should be more careful with money too 😭
