I have a car with a reasonably big blind spot. I was joining a motorway and accelerating up to speed. I checked my mirrors and checked again. Just as I was about to pull into the carriage way I had this horrible spidy sense and looked over my shoulder. There was this fucking grey coloured ( this was the uk in winter, so everything is grey) right there! It was about a foot away from my car and I was about to pull into it at 70mph. The other car was completely and utterly oblivious. Scary shit. I always check my blind spot now.

Use the SAE standard for mirror adjustment and you won't have this problem. If you can see the side of your car in the mirror at all, they're wrong...they should be out much further. You don't need to see what's behind you with your side mirrors, that's what your center rearview mirror is for.

Even with adjusted mirrors, i t can still feel like this when you've got six cars all hovering around an interstate entry ramp for no reason as you're trying to merge.
