What's the big deal about mukbangs?

I just find them to be incredibly disgusting, especially when people have sauce all over the mouths. It's weird that people actually like stuff like that, having people eating messy or something?

I saw some mukbangs back in 2010, watched a few, it's just people eating, seems really boring and the sounds are gross.
