Your care was not free. You will receive a bill. There is no reciprocal agreement to treat tourists free between the UK and The USA.

The NHS has issues, I wont deny it. Chronically understaffed & underfunded, waiting times at weekends can be horrendous & it's infrastructure is creaking. But I'm more than happy for my taxes to go towards it and glad this dude was ok.

I need 4 different medications a day for a heart attack and I pay £10 a month to cover any and all prescriptions via a prepay certificate.

England has issues along with every other country in the world but our healthcare isnt one of them.

Americans describing such things as socialism and Trump rehashing the red scare just make the US a laughing stock to the rest of the world.

When I was 19, I got food poisoning in Portugal and was taken to the hospital (dehydration, delirium). I "came to" after an IV (and not sure what else). Sister said I was seen by 2 doctors during that time. I was an idiot teen with no health insurance and when the admin said I could go to the desk to get the bill, I was shaking with fear. Would I get tossed in a Portuguese prison for medical debt??? 18 Euros, lol.

The British don't really pay all that more Tax to pay for the NHS, although the Regressives I Parliament have been stripping away MHS funding over the decades to make the system less effective. Iirc for middle class people in the US and UK they effectively pay the same tax rate. 

The big difference is I scotizens pay taxes on all I come from around the world, they are the essentially only nationality to do so, besides some other random country. 

The NHS was created because during WW1 the draft showed the British government the deplorable state of the health of it's citizens, from malnutrition to untreated illnesses. so they did something about it. A similar thing happened in the US for WW2 the documentation of mass malnutrition and lack of access to medicine. The US government basically did fuck all and capped wages during and after the war. Companies after the war trying to compete but alumable to raise wages started offering company benefits. Things like company cars and nice company housing, day care, and yes health insurance. 

and Americans are upset when we call it a 3rd world country now.

Reminder the USA is the ONLY "first world" country without some version of universal healthcare.
