US education system working exactly as intended

This is because of a dumb bitch named Lucy Calkins.

Children in the United States for the past 20 years have not been taught phonics. They have been taught to basically memorize specific words and guess.

So that first lady, for example, she does not know how to sound out a word the way somebody who had studied phonics as a little kid would know. She’s just knowing that a long word that begins with a G and ends with an IST is often the word gynecologist so that that’s what she went with.

That’s what all of these people are doing. It’s fucking sad. And it’s not their fault. It’s because of that dumb bitch Lucy Calkins, and money.
