Usually it’s a negotiation tactic, unusual to give them the item before coming down but I’ve seen folks come off ledges (literal and metaphorical) for cigarettes or pizza before. The trick is to light one up or eat a slice upwind of them, so they smell it and remember how long they’ve been up there 😅
