18 and skipping college, trying to build a remote career with actual flexibility. Looking to talk to people who've done this

Hey everyone. I'm cross posting this in a few different subs since I know a lot of you probably overlap, so sorry if you see it more than once. Figured it's better to ask in a few places instead of blowing up one sub with a giant thread. Little bit about me. I'm 18 and just decided to skip college. I'm trying to figure out how to actually build a remote career that has real flexible hours and pays decent, not just "remote" on paper while I'm still stuck to a strict schedule or working 60 hour weeks. I'd honestly rather take it slow and build something sustainable than rush into something that burns me out before I even get going. I'm leaning toward stuff like freelance editing, marketing, or other service based online work. Not really trying to get into cold calls or heavy sales, more interested in something where I can actually build a skill, work with clients, and have control over my own time. That said I'm not dead set on freelancing specifically, I'm also totally open to just landing a remote job with an actual company if that ends up being the better path. I don't have a portfolio or any real experience yet so I'm not expecting anyone to just hand me clients or a job. Mostly I just want to talk to people who've actually done this, either side. What worked for you, what didn't, how'd you land your first few clients or your first remote job, how long did it realistically take before it started paying real money, and what do you wish someone had told you at 18 before you started. If anyone's cool with answering a few questions or just chatting for a bit I'd really appreciate it. Not trying to find some shortcut or get rich quick, just want to actually learn from people who've done it instead of guessing my way through everything. Finally broke through my growth plateau here's what helped

After 6 months of sitting at around a 1K followers on tiktok, I've finally broken through. I tried so many diferent things collabs, different content, posting schedules, etc. What worked for me was just slightly boosting my account(not bots, just a little) so that the algorithim would notice my content and help boost it a little. I started with just a couple hundred extra followers and some likes on my last couple videos. A week later, I've gotten organically engaged again and my following is growing once more. Has anyone else tried this tactic? What worked for you?
