I think there may be a difference between rapping and instagram modeling(?) to a specific audience vs actually thinking that way. If my audience is teenagers and early 20s, then I perform to that audience.
Nobody is out here complaining that The Wiggles are thinking like preschoolers.
Emotionally developed people don't care what rappers and IG models do and do not look to them to be community leaders.
I am very much of the belief that the whole internet is now very much shaped and catered to and for teens and tweens. The discourse is black and white with so little nuance. It’s all so teenage shaped. Whats insane is that all the adults want to be teenagers. And I get it! The world is dire so pretending we’re kids it’s really soothing in times of late stage capitalism- it’s not fun to be an adult! We can’t buy houses, start families- hell even get a job that would let you have some time off or a slight dignified living. I get so many want to regress/stay into teenage land.
Living in this stunted mentality is also rewarded! Not only with social capital but with real hard cash- it’s a self congratulatory system that just perpetuates social anxiety, social isolation, and emotional numbness for the sake of capital and the vague promise of monetary security and “community”
But like how much community can your internet avatar really have? No one is ever presenting themselves as they are online, so you’re just presenting the version of yourself you want to show. There’s very little vulnerability even though everyone rants about vulnerability- what we have is voyeurism. Those looking in and those showing what they think that others want to see. Vulnerability is a performance. How much real are you when all is a performance? When does the performance become who you are?
Weird times

Fame and success freezes the development of many people who obtain it.
What happened?
Hyper focus on "the thing" that made them money.
It doesn’t stop at IG models either.
Anyone caring/investing/emulating Instagram models, rappers, celebrities, etc are dumb. Easily led. Easily influenced. Easily distracted. What some people are realizing/coming to grips with 10...15 years down the line are what a lot of people saw/knew/understood from the jump.
It’s also them trying to target those demographics, likely because they elicit the highest sales.
"You can see their lack of maturity"
I think following these people on social media at all shows lack of maturity.
