I don’t even understand, if the services can be restored, why can’t it be brought back to the App Store?

I made the unfortunate mistake of deleting the app thinking that it wasn’t gonna come back as soon as the services shut down. That’s honestly really dickish how they’re not giving anybody a chance to restore their app.

because it's still illegal in the usa, and they can still charge apple, Google or the other one just for having it in the app store.

Because it's not actually unbanned

It’s like if TikTok was a banned book… it’s illegal to sell in stores but if you already own it, it’s still on your shelf. Apple and Google can’t have it in the App Store, but if it’s already on your phone it’ll still work. They won’t be able to send updates to the app until it’s back in the App Stores either.

Apple and Google don’t really need to take the risk since it’s still technically banned. They figure “most” people probably already have it that previously did prior to ban so there’s no reason to assume liability.

It really only affects new users and those who couldn’t wait 14 hours.

The Wall Street Journal went over how none of the TikTok ban delay from Trump is legal. It should not hold up to legal challenges when they come. Therefore Apple, Google, and the other companies are very unlikely to start violating the law just based on Trump's assurances. The fine for breaking the law is $850 billion with a B.

I think it’ll be back in the app stores this week yet. Or people who still have it will end up not being able to use it, because it’s gonna need an update eventually!

Because it's still banned

it’s still banned. Trump just gave them the relief and understanding that they’ll be okay with keeping the servers up until something happens. But the law was signed, Tiktok is still banned. This app will no longer receive updates. I would turn automatic updates off on your device until the app can return to the store, because the updates will not be compatible for tiktok since it won’t receive updates itself. The app will slowly start to glitch and will stop working all together unless the app gets unbanned.

Looking at the executive order it'll because of this -

I further order the Attorney General to issue a letter to each provider stating that there has been no violation of the statute and that there is no liability for any conduct that occurred during the above-specified period, as well as for any conduct from the effective date of the Act until the issuance of this Executive Order.

So either they haven't received the letter yet or it's going through the Apple bureaucratic process.

Also technically the law hasn't been repealed as you can't do that via executive order. Trump just signed an EO telling the Attorney General to ignore enforcing it for 75 days from Jan 19th.
