As a European Citizen - I don't understand: is TikTok banned in US?

Here's the skinny.

1. A few days before the ban on January 18th (not the 19th), all 3 branches of US Government unanimously passed a new law called “The Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act”. This Act is what banned TikTok.

(The language in the Act indicates that going forward, the current President decides if any foreign app meets the requirements of the Act. So, it is up to the President now to decide if we get foreign mobile apps now)

2. Biden could have paused the ban for 90 days (per ruling in the Applications Act) but chose to “let Trump handle it”

3. Per the law, Tiktok went dark in the USA on Saturday 18th Jan at 11:30pm EST

4. Tiktok came back the next day, around 12 hours following the ban on Sunday after Trump initiated a pause on the new law ruling for 75 days. I am unclear how this happened since he had not been inaugurated as president at the time so (as far as I am aware) he was not allowed to implement anything?

5. Trump is now trying to make a deal with TikTok. He wants to have 50% of the company to monitor TikTok USA “manage it a little…or a lot”.

6. We are unsure what will happen to Tiktok in 75 days.

7. Many Americans such as myself have left TikTok because after TikTok went back up on Sunday, many of us noticed the algorithm change dramatically to promote right wing propaganda. There is clear censorship if you use TikTok from a USA IP vs another IP addresse and it all rubs us the wrong way. Some Americans (particularly those who fought against the ban) have stayed on TT to observe the algorithm change from the side lines.

It’s been removed from app stores, so no new users can download it and anyone that deleted the app won’t be able to get it back without doing some extra workarounds such as a VPN. Assume most users won’t go through the trouble and so influx of new users from America has mostly halted. If you have the app, like I do, it works. For now.

It's functional for anyone who didn't delete the app. But honestly, after the stunt they pulled, I won't be going back. I deleted my account and the app and I'm not sorry.

Per your question: Can we watch your stuff?

I am no longer on TT but on Sunday when I perused the new algorithm, I was able to search for and watch the European and Canadian TikTokers I follow.

With what I am hearing from USA users now...I reckon your stuff is likely shadowbanned from us but still searchable...so long as you don't post content that is now banned from USA eyes on TT. The list of banned content seems to be growing.

I do hear from some US users that some debricking (i.e. rigging) is in order to not be affected too hard by the new algorithm.

For like 12 hours. It needed maintenance to satisfy MAGA

Why are people bothered? I don't understand why people seem angry about not having an app designed to let people watch others do silly dances!
