TikTok just politics now

How many peoples feed have just become at toxic cesspool of inflammatory political videos. I swear before the presidential race TT was mostly entertaining videos which is why I used it. To get away from everyday drama and everything being political. Has anyone else experienced this?

You are interacting with political videos. The algo assumes you want to see more of it.

It's so bad I ended up deleting the app. Ever since the "ban" the two topics I could NOT get off my fyp were Politics and Here's Why you Should Hate Men More. Didn't matter when I said not interested, blocked a page, went through messages to refresh my likes. The govt got their greasy hands on it and ruined it

It’s an algorithm. You keep watching, clicking, and commenting so it feeds you more of the same. Most people only comment when they are mad and feel like they have to say something! and so the only engagement is rage bait and politics.

Do you ACTUALLY want to fix it or just complain?

Even if you don’t click like or comment it still records how many seconds of each video you watch, even pausing for 2-3 seconds on a video is enough for it to think you are interested. If you quickly swipe up every time it looks politics related (or even more effective: close the app) the algorithm will learn not to show you that.

If you REALLY want to fix it you have to do a weekly then monthly recalibration. It’s easy: just search for the topics you actually WANT to see, click like on each one and also comment, do this for about 15 minutes a week to fix the algorithm, then once a month for maintenance.

Example: I like new indie music artists and ceramic art and cute bird videos. So every week I purposefully search for things like “new song” “indie music” and “pottery” “glaze results” “wheel throwing” and “funny bird” “casques” “parrots” bird training” “cute birds” etc and for each topic I scroll thru about 20-30 videos and like and comment on each one. The algorithm learns that’s what I like and the next time I’m on the fyp it’s all art and cute birds.

"Politics is infecting every facet of life, and for some reason the media app is also affected."

"The algorithm thinks you want it" is not the perfect reply you thought it was.

Just more dystopia.

Unfortunately that’s to be expected under such conditions so even without an algorithm feeding it to you you’d be seeing a ton of it naturally bcs ::gestures broadly::

newsflash: everything is political whether you like it or not. I understand your sentiment, but just from a logical standpoint avoiding politics is impossible and not something you should strive for anyway. politics affects you, it affects everyone. I for one enjoy the political content I see, but I also interact with intention so I'm not getting nearly as much of the 'inflammatory' stuff. I focus on the issues, not the silly drama people try to push into it. but if you hate politics that much, going into online spaces where those political subjects are prevalent will not be a good time for you.

Mine is a bunch of GenX jokes, people falling down, and metal musicians. I don't get any politics in my FYP

Reset feed, don’t interact with any political vids and any that come up mark them as not interested
