Genuinely - what is the purpose of commenting “first” on a video
I seriously need to understand what the purpose of it is. Is there some sort of thing it does to the algorithm? Is it literally just some dumb internet thing that happens?

It’s been around a very long time. It’s like being a Reddit mod, admin on Twitch or anything similar. It means absolutely nothing to anyone except that person.

It serves no practical purpose, there are just a lot of people who like the idea of being the first person to comment on something and so will say "first" to mark their comment as the first comment made.
