Everyone likes to bring up Chernobyl, but there were like 18 different layers of not giving enough of a shit that led to Chernobyl

Who is producing nuclear energy? Is this privatized or is it public ? The problem with private companies and anything they do is that they actively choose not to mitigate risks and simoly ignore risks because it cuts into the bottom line.

I just feel that moving towards a “green economy” shouldn’t include hazardous waste that will continue to be a danger to human life for longer than human civilization has had the written word is a good idea. If we can create nuclear energy with absolutely no waste whose half life is like 24,000 years like some current nuclear waste, then that’s a lot less problematic for me. It isn’t “perfect enemy of the good” here it’s “why not invest in better options than burying radioactive material and hoping civilization survives long enough to communicate that it’s toxic there until it’s stops being toxic there”

The problem here is imperfection here can render an entire continent uninhabitable.

We don't trust nuclear because we understand the pressures of capitalism thanks to oil, coal and gas.
