Can't send messages even though my message request was accepted, does anyone know how to fix this?

They've accepted my request and messaged me, but it's saying "can't send messages until message request is accepted" i've tried resetting my phone, my wifi and even deleting and reinstalling the app, does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?
